I am trying to add an extra column 'category' (a string) to my pandas dataframe by reading it from an excel file which has columns 'category' (string) & 'id' (int). The dataframes are named df_1 & df_2 respectively. I am able to merge them using df_1.merge(df_2[['id','category']],how='left',on='id'). However this adds two columns ('id' & 'category'). How do I remove the extra column ('id')? I have tried df_1.merge(df_2[['category']],how='left',on='id') but this gives me error: MergeError: You are trying to merge on object and int64 columns...
