Scotland’s back-to-back wins in the Nations League have certainly earned Steve Clarke some praise, with many of his critics in the Tartan Army coming around.
On Tuesday’s Super Scoreboard on Radio Clyde, a fan posed an intriguing question that sparked mixed reactions from Stephen O’Donnell and Gordon Dalziel. After discussing Scotland’s victory over Poland, the fan cheekily asked where Scotland would finish in the SPFL!
Would Scotland finish above Celtic in the SPFL?
Yes, what a squad Clarke has to call on
No, Rodgers and Celtic are a cut above
Managing a team twice a month is a far cry from the relentless week-to-week grind of club football, and with Brendan Rodgers now facing four months of continuous fixtures after a stop-start season, the challenge has grown.
When pressed on where Scotland would finish, O’Donnell initially stated they would be “up there” before adding that Scotland would top the league if his “Dad” (his former Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke) were in charge.
Dalziel, however, disagreed, backing Celtic to remain at the top, especially as international football gives way to the return of the club game.
