Newcastle Poised to Sign Vakhtang Salia – Report
Newcastle United is reportedly close to securing a deal for promising Georgian talent Vakhtang Salia, with the 17-year-old nearing a move to Tyneside ahead of the 2025/26 season. According to Santi Aouna from Foot Mercato, Vakhtang Salia is poised to transfer from Dinamo Tbilisi to Newcastle United next season, with a “full agreement” reportedly close between the two clubs.
Born in August 2007, the 17-year-old has attracted attention from some of Europe’s top clubs, including Manchester City and Arsenal. This move appears to be the first significant step toward bringing the young attacker to the Premier League.
Salia is considered a promising talent and may signal a strategic shift in Newcastle’s recruitment approach as Paul Mitchell seeks to expand their search for top global talent. Notably, Dinamo Tbilisi is where current Napoli winger and EURO 2024 star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia first made his mark, raising hopes that Salia could similarly rise to prominence in European football. Salia won’t be the first celebrated Georgian to be linked with Newcastle; the club was previously interested in Valencia keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili before withdrawing their interest, leading the 23-year-old to sign with Liverpool instead.
